The beautiful UNESCO city of Ohrid once again became a vibrant meeting place of cultures during the XXIII International Folk-Dance & Music Festival “OHRID FEST”, held from 01–05 July 2026 in Ohrid, North Macedonia.
From the very beginning of the festival, participants were warmly welcomed by the WOFA Team, who met with each group leader upon arrival to exchange essential festival information, review the programme, and ensure that every ensemble was fully prepared for the exciting days ahead. This welcoming atmosphere set the tone for another unforgettable international gathering filled with friendship, cooperation, and cultural exchange.
Throughout the festival days, participants from Hungary, Croatia, Bulgaria, Poland, Montenegro, and Greece brought the streets, squares, and lakeside promenade of Ohrid to life with authentic folk music, spectacular dance performances, colorful traditional costumes, and an inspiring artistic spirit. One of the festival’s highlights was the traditional festival parade, which took place along the picturesque shores of Lake Ohrid. Hundreds of residents and visitors enthusiastically followed the participating groups as they proudly marched through the city, accompanied by music, dancing, and waving national flags, before arriving at the festival stage for an unforgettable evening of performances.
Beyond the festival programme, participants had the opportunity to experience the many treasures of the Ohrid region. Several groups enjoyed a scenic boat excursion to the Monastery of Saint Naum, where they explored one of North Macedonia’s most treasured cultural landmarks and took part in a traditional wine tasting, surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of Lake Ohrid and its natural springs. Other participants discovered Ohrid’s remarkable history during a guided walking tour through the charming Old Town, visiting its ancient churches, historic streets, and iconic landmarks. Many groups also took advantage of the beautiful summer weather by relaxing on Ohrid’s beaches, swimming in the crystal-clear lake, and enjoying the welcoming atmosphere of one of Europe’s most beautiful lakeside destinations.
Throughout the festival, performers not only shared their traditions on stage but also built meaningful friendships beyond the performances. Through shared experiences, cultural exchange, and countless memorable moments together, participants strengthened international connections that will continue long after the festival had come to an end.
Once again, the XXIII International Folk-Dance & Music Festival “OHRID FEST” demonstrated the power of folklore, music, and dance to bring people together across borders, creating unforgettable memories while celebrating cultural diversity, friendship, and the universal language of tradition. The festival once again confirmed Ohrid’s reputation as one of Southeast Europe’s most inspiring destinations for international cultural events, where artistic excellence and genuine hospitality come together to create experiences that participants will cherish for years to come.
